Claude and Gemini are both strong AI assistants. For most businesses the deciding factor is not a benchmark, it is where your team works and what you need the assistant to do. Here is a fair way to think about it.
Start with where your team works
Gemini is built into Google Workspace. Google includes it in Workspace business plans such as Business Standard, and it works inside Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Meet and Drive. If your business lives in Google Workspace, that built-in convenience is a real advantage.1
Claude works as its own app, and connects to the tools you already use through connectors, including Google Workspace and Microsoft 365. That makes it a good fit if your business uses a mix of tools, or wants one assistant across all of them.23
Where Claude often stands out
In the work we do with clients, Claude tends to be a strong fit when the job involves:
- careful, well-structured writing that needs little editing
- reading and analysing long documents, contracts and reports
- following detailed instructions and house style consistently
- shared team knowledge in Projects, and repeatable processes captured as Skills
- software development, through Claude Code45
Where Gemini often fits
- help inside the Google apps your team already has open, without switching tools
- meeting notes and summaries in Google Meet
- quick drafting in Gmail and Docs, and building spreadsheets in Sheets
- searching and summarising files in Drive1
How each handles your business data
Both providers make commitments for business customers. Anthropic's Commercial Terms say it may not train models on customer content. Google says Workspace business data is not used to train Gemini models or for advertising. Either way, the account matters: use business plans, not personal ones, and keep sensitive data out.61
Run a fair trial
- Pick five real tasks your team does every week, such as a proposal, a report summary or a customer reply.
- Give both assistants the same context and instructions, with names and sensitive details removed.
- Judge the results as you would a colleague's work: accuracy, tone, and how much editing they need.
- Ask the people who will use it which they prefer after a week, not after one try.
- Weigh the setup: how each fits your tools, admin controls and cost per person.
You can use both
Plenty of businesses use the assistant built into their office suite for quick tasks, and Claude for deeper writing, analysis and team processes. That is fine, as long as each tool is on a business plan and covered by your AI usage policy.
